Emails not downloading into Outlook or Outlook Express - Email stuck on server server

With some versions of Outlook and Outlook Express you may find that an email may not download to your inbox from the server. This is due to an email or its attachment becoming corrupt in transit, and Outlook not being able to cope with the file.

It is a simple process to remove the faulty email:

Plan A:

  1. Log into your WebMail account (www.yourdomainname.com/webmail) using your email User Name and its Password.
  2. Proceed to the WebMail Inbox and view the email by date order. One of the oldest emails that has not been downloaded onto your computer, probably with an attachment will be the culprit. Delete any Spam or unwanted emails.
  3. Do a Send and Receive from your normal Email Program (Outlook Express). This should complete without error. If it doesn't go to Plan B.
  4. The corrupt email can be downloaded to your Desktop, if necessary.
  5. Don't forget to Logout from your Webmail when you are finished.

Plan B:

  3. Click on the Folders icon and name the new folder "Temp" and click on Add. Return to your WebMail's Inbox.
  4. Tick the box next to Size which should select all of the emails in your Inbox.
  5. Select the Temp folder from the dropdown box on the right and click on Move button to move the emails into the Temp folder. Wait for the emails to move (the folder will be empty).
  6. Do a Send and Receive from your normal Email Program (Outlook Express). This should complete without error.
  7. Go to the WebMail Temp folder and move the newest half of the emails to the Inbox and do a Send and Receive in your Email Program (Outlook Express). These emails should download. Continue transferring files into your Inbox half at a time and Send and Receive until you find which email is corrupt.
  8. The corrupt email can be downloaded to your Desktop, if necessary.
  9. Don't forget to Logout from your Webmail when you are finished transferring files into your Inbox and receiving them.
